The First Fracture: How Deprivation, Power, and the Search for Love Created Sexual Anomalies
To understand the confusion surrounding sexuality today, we must go back to the original blueprint and then trace where and how the fracture happened. In the beginning, God designed sex as a one-flesh union between one man and one woman within the safety of covenant. But humanity did not remain in the garden. Sin entered, and with it came a cascade of distortions—not just in individual behavior, but in the very structures of human society. One of the earliest anomalies emerged from a toxic combination of power, poverty, and the human heart’s desperate need for connection. Men, particularly those who accumulated resources, discovered that their means gave them access. They could have multiple sexual partners not because this aligned with any divine design, but because women in positions of deprivation—without economic security, social standing, or protection—found themselves with a terrible calculus: align with a powerful man sexually, or face the crushing weight of survival alone. This was not genuine desire freely offered; it was a transaction born of imbalance, and it became a seed of profound distortion.
What you must understand is that this dynamic broke something fundamental in both genders. For men, wealth and power became tools of sexual acquisition rather than resources for faithful provision. Their hearts were trained to see women as commodities to be collected, not as image-bearers to be cherished in exclusive covenant. For women, sexuality became a currency of survival rather than a gift of intimacy. Many learned to separate their bodies from their hearts, offering physical access in exchange for protection, provision, or a way out of deprivation. This transactional model of sex—so common in the ancient world and still pervasive today—is a deep anomaly, a departure from God’s design of mutual, vulnerable, exclusive self-giving. It produces shame, resentment, and an inability to trust. Both the powerful man and the desperate woman lose something irreplaceable: the experience of sex as a safe, joyful, non-transactional union of equals.
Then came another layer of fracture: when the natural order of male-female union became associated with pain, betrayal, or exploitation, some began to seek alternatives. If the opposite gender has hurt you, used you, or abandoned you, the same gender may seem safer, more understanding, or less threatening. If you have witnessed women being degraded by men, or men being entrapped by women, the draw toward same-gender relationships can feel like an escape from a broken system. Some also discovered same-gender attractions not as a conscious reaction but as a deep, confusing reality they did not choose. The Bible does not provide a detailed psychological explanation for the origins of same-sex attraction, but it does affirm consistently that God’s original design for sexual expression is between a man and a woman in marriage. What Scripture calls “contrary to nature” (Romans 1:26-27) is not a dismissal of the person experiencing the attraction, but a recognition that this desire—however deeply felt—does not align with the created order. Importantly, Paul places the development of such desires within a broader context of humanity’s rejection of God, not as an isolated sin but as part of a general turning away from the Creator toward created things.
None of this is said to condemn you or to minimize the genuine struggle many face. If you experience same-sex attraction, you did not necessarily “choose” it, and your value in God’s eyes is not diminished. What you must understand is that desire alone does not determine identity or action. The Christian call is not to eliminate all unwanted feelings, but to submit every desire—whether for multiple partners, transactional sex, or same-gender intimacy—to the lordship of Christ. This is hard. It is a cross. But it is the path to genuine freedom. The world tells you that your desires define you and must be acted upon to be authentic. God tells you that you are more than your desires, and that some desires—no matter how persistent—are not meant to be your master. Whatever your background—whether you have used power to acquire, traded sex for survival, or found yourself drawn to the same gender—the invitation remains the same: come to Christ, not with your sexuality tidied and resolved, but with your honest confusion and pain. He does not discard the broken or the conflicted. He heals. He redirects. And He offers a new identity: beloved child, not defined by anomaly, but redeemed by grace.
